Infosys prize conferred on six researchers from 5 science streams

Six researchers from five science streams were honoured with the Infosys Prize-2011 by the former President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, here on Monday.
Eminent personalities, including Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, attended the function.
The prize, into its third year, carries a cash component of Rs. 50 lakh, a gold medallion and a citation.

B.D. Park new Samsung India MD

Consumer durables firm Samsung India Electronics on Monday announced the appointment of B.D. Park as its new Managing Director, as well as President and CEO of Samsung’s South-West Asia operations.
Mr. Park, who was heading the Mobile and IT division at Samsung India, will assume the new role from today. He will replace Jung Shoo Shin, who was President and CEO for Samsung South-West Asia from February, 2009, till date.

Rare black-necked crane spotted in Arunachal valley

The black-necked crane, a rare bird species found at high altitudes, has been spotted for the first time at Zemithang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh by the Indian chapter of the World Wildlife Fund.
So long there were only reports of the bird’s sighting in the valley in Tawang district, located at an altitude of 2000 metres above sea level near the China border, but there was no photographic evidence.
